The Post reports that a cyclist was killed just north of Dupont Circle this morning. A garbage truck "just ran completely over her," according to D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Alan Etter.

Many heartfelt thoughts go out to the roommates of Alice Swanson, who lived in a group house in Mount Pleasant, and to all her friends and family.

This is terrifying. I and all my friends bike frequently in the area. This is a reminder of the inherent dangers of biking, even when wearing a helmet and, apparently, obeying all traffic laws. My condolences to the family of Alice Swanson. R.I.P.
