Obama is nothing I want. I like my life. I don't want change. I will be voting for McCain, even though I don't like him much either.

McCain gets a pass because he also got one in the primaries. I get the feeling that the media simply loves the idea of McCain. He's had lots of time to cultivate the relationship and he uses it to get the ride. I think some of it also comes from the railroading his campaign got in 2000.

I also don't think Obama ever got a pass like Rags noted above. Hillary was virtually anointed and then along comes Obama out of no where. Although I supported Dodd, and felt the media ignored anything that wasn't Hillary, well, I suppose now, it's just the same kind of walk that McCain is getting.

In the end, I think it's a combination of past performance (2000) coupled with the Media's desire for a tight horse race which will mean greater revenue. And when they see things neck and neck again, they'll lean into McCain for being nearly last in his class or being married twice and having an affair with his current wife while married to his first, just as much as we'll see more Wright or more Weatherman crap. In the end, it's the horse race, pure and simple. It's all about the money.

Rags—

Appreciate the response. But I'd have hoped it was clear from my midnight ramble that I wasn't pushing for more Obama hagiographies; rather, I was hoping to see some straight talk to, from, and about Senator McCain...a man whose kowtowing to the Bush 'stration and whose recent foray into, yes, the politics of fear would have been inconceivable eight years ago.

I have no problem with asking tough questions of Obama, and no, I'm not looking to canonize him.

What I object to is filthy scare tactics and bald appeals to xenophobia. If you're looking for an autopsy on the death of debate, this would be a good place to start.

So we all know who Hamas wants in the White House. But what about you, Rags? You down with McCain? How 'bout Bob Barr? Or maybe this is all about Hillary and what might have been....

Either way, you didn't exactly answer my question.

I'd agree generally with Rags. The Obama-love/savior vibe is pretty explicit in the (mostly TV) media. Even as an Obama supporter, I think it gets a bit much sometimes.

There's something wrong with the City Desk this morning. For some reason a HuffPo post was put here.

Don't want. Please fix.

Wow. Just, wow. For the last, what, six months MSM has been lauding and genuflecting unabashedly to our Saviour Obama and still it's not enough? CNN basically burned Hillary at the stake for having the unmitigated gall to try and stand in the way of Obama's manifest destiny and yet you want more? The Obama love-in from all of MSM has been... disquieting. The manner in which his minions paint his opponents as either racists or at the very least reactionaries will be the death of debate in American politics. The ancient Greeks would be appalled. So now you won't be happy until all of MSM's impartiality and integrity is lost? You won't be happy until CNN, MSNBC and all the other news organizations join in on NYT-type hatchet jobs on John McCain? Strange days friends, strange days.
