It is absurd to think scared people in pain can correctly self-diagnose and differentiate between true emergencies and urgent conditions. Assuming the worst, they go to the ER. Hospitals can stop griping about crowded ER conditions, reduce the size of their Starbucks and gift shops, and give the space to DMH for urgent care clinics. Triage will separate out the urgent care cases and ERs will run smoothly and efficiently. If only DMH could open urgent care clinics for all aspects of health at hospital emergency rooms.
