From the Late Night Shots e-mail update: "Washingtonian has posted pictures of last weekend's 40-something crowd that attended the annual polo classic in horse country. Like oil to water, after the races Huey Lewis was introduced as the encore performance to a crowd that wouldn't know Marty McFly if he hitched his skateboard to the back of their Buick LeSabre." So does this mean that the crowd didn't like Huey Lewis? Do area rich folk really drive Buick LeSabres, or is this some in-joke I'm not getting? What's "polo"? —Mark Athitakis

It's a jab at the event and the crowd that it drew. Polo Cup did not go very well.

Is Huey Lewis supposed to be a young draw? LNS, you're so complicated!

It's the Power of Love.

Do LNSers like Huey Louis? He was washed up at least a decade before the word "Turbo" was applied to anything other than an engine. And was your average Smith Point patron even 7 years old when Back to the Future came out?
Complicated indeed. If this is a jab against the event, it sure is confusing.

I'm confused too. If you are 40-something, then you were a teenager or in your early 20's when that movie came out. That was like the target demographic. Plus Huey was, and is, completely and unapologetically lame. 40 somethings are the target demographic for completely and unapologetically lame music.
I think that since the LNS crowd is so enamoured with the 80s (despite not actually experiencing any of it first hand) then they'd also love Huey Lewis. It must be some inside-polo joke...
And when is the older, even skeezier version of Smith Point, the "Rookery", going to get some attention?

Just realized that I have the press release celebrating the amazingness of this event. There was puddle dancing!
"After the match, the polo field became open lawn seating for attendees to enjoy the musical performances by Vittorio Grigolo, the Gipsy Kings Family, and Huey Lewis and the News. All three performances excited the crowds, with Huey Lewis and the News triggering attendees to start dancing in the puddles. The evening concluded with an outstanding display of fireworks rivaling those on the DC Mall at the 4th of July."
