Three Minutes with Wendy Rieger
Wendy Rieger is the anchor of NBC 4’s “News 4 at 5.” She has worked as a reporter in Washington for over two decades.
When I first contacted Ms. Rieger about this project, I worried that a person who earned a living sitting in front of a major network’s television cameras would not be interested in making a three-minute silent Camcorder portrait destined to be viewed in low resolution on the internet. However, Ms. Rieger was not only enthusiastic about the project, but sat for an additional three minutes after technical problems wrecked my first take. Her parting words were also inspiring.
“Well, at least this isn’t the same old thing,” she said.

Neat idea. Surprising what you can infer about a person by observing body language only. Mostly confident, just the right amount of self consciousness about the whole thing, animated, a bit flirty, cute.

I third the kudos. I want more.

I loved it, and it made me like Wendy Rieger even more. Everything about her shows her to be a hip, conscientious, and NICE person. Need a lot more of those in this town. I also appreciate Justin’s creativity.

Sigh. This is even better than the circa-1994 Wendy Rieger headshot pinned to my bulletin board…

Visual studies like these reveal personal predujices and stereotypes. It’s pretty ridiculous to make assumptions about someone’s identity by watching them stare at a camera for 3 minutes. I’d be curious to know people’s reactions to a subject who wasn’t an attractive, white, blonded haired woman.
Much love for Wendy, I’ve been watching her and NBC4 since I was a kid. Get my boy Jim Vance on here.

Very cool. Seconding the Jim Vance request.
