The forecast for alt-weeklies: Meh. The Project for Excellence in Journalism has just released its annual "State of the News Media" report, and while it isn't all bad news, we've got issues–circ is flatlining, revenue is dropping, readership is aging. But there are a few upsides–online revenue is picking up and consolidation just might work, though tell it to all the people City Paper had to lay off last year. –Mark Athitakis
