To The Poor Schmuck Whose Car Blew Up Last Night:

Car Boom

Sorry.

That was the scene last night around 11 after a manhole exploded on 14th and Clifton St. in Columbia Heights. The explosion knocked out power in the neighborhood--even the emergency lights were down in my building--and beat the hell out of an unfortunately parked Jeep.

I waited around to see if anyone would claim the car, but nobody had come forward by the time I decided to navigate the pitch black stairwell by the light of my cellphone. Which means there's a remote chance that someone walked outside this morning ready to drive to work and found this:
