Ron Paul Still Around

Slate still remembers Ron Paul: Apparently, Ron Paul is sort of dropping out. Slate writes: "In a strange seven-and-a-half minute address to supporters worldwide, Ron Paul said it was time to scale back the campaign. He’s not quite quitting, but he’s not quite optimistic, either. He admitted that he can’t achieve 'victory in the conventional political sense.' President Bush may want to steal that line for his next speech on Iraq."

You can watch his speech (we warn you: it is dull as hell and just plain weird. Mr. Paul also did not get the memo from City Paper's webguys as the video is way over the standard two minute time limit):

We will miss Mr. Paul as well as Mr. Huckabee. And of course, Mr. Romney. All provided plenty of yuks, crackpot theories, flip flops, and straight-to-youtube moments.

    Show bias much?

  2. #2

I used to find it disheartening when I found such terrible bias in "mainstream" newspapers, but now it's just downright funny. How anyone can even take these guys and the publications they work for seriously is absolutely mind-boggling. I mean they don't even put up a facade of objectivity anymore. What a joke!

  3. #3

That's right, snicker all you want, but in the end, you deserve one of these three candidates this nation is stuck with, and you deserve 'em good and hard. Mean time, I'm packing it, and developing a plot of land in Aruba. Later, suckers.

  4. #4

Alt-weeklies have long been part of the corrupt system they claim to rail against.

  5. #5

I can't wait to take the smearbunders and MSM operators to trial for what will be their war crimes when America goes full tyranny murder machine.

You won't get off like Leni Reifenstahl.

  6. #6

Ron Paul was the only voice of sanity in an otherwise warped campaign. Now that he is out of the race, the other three candidates can warmonger to their hearts' delight to the applause of the MSM. Who will ask about the collapsing dollar and inflation? McCain? Ha! Who will demand the return of our constitutional liberties taken away? Hillary? (or aren't they important so long as the government keeps us "safe"?) Who would restore free market discipline to a banking industry that can always count on a taxpayer bailout...directly or through Federal Reserve devaluation of our hard earned money? Is Obama going to do that?

Yeah, some will benefit from Ron Paul's departure from the race (military industrial complex, central bankers, worshipers of state power and their hangers on in the media.) But the public will not be among them.

  7. #7

Let us clarify. RON PAUL IS NOT OUT OF THE RACE, AND HE DID NOT SAY THAT HE IS OUT, Lysander, no matter what you say.

    Have you ever
heard the stories about those who serve wicked masters? Well, it goes something like this. Once they have achieved there goal, the first to go are the ones that thought they were in good standing. You know, good little servants. Or something like that. Rot in the hell you think is so good.

  9. #9

Grow the fuk up already! Tee hee hee I am an adult and I still came people names. How funny.

  10. #10

    "dull as hell"

Translation: This candidate's commentary, unlike the vacuous rhetorical fluff of popular MSM-approved candidates, actually contains ideas of substance, requiring the viewer to use his/her faculties of reasoning.

I can understand why some would find more than two minutes of such content to be intolerably lengthy.

  11. #11

Wow City Desk, you guys are a classy bunch. Nice job ruining any sense of credibility your publication may have ever had. What a despicable and wholly base piece of work.

Comment sluts... That's right, you will post blogs just trolling for Paultards to rise to the bait. Shame...

  13. #13

    Yeah,

I don't get how anyone claiming to be politically aware could consider this video boring. Where else can you hear this more long term political strategizing and awareness of the cataclysmic events bearing down on us ever more rapidly? Compared to the Hillary-McCain-Obama show it is edge of the seat material.

I could allow the "weird" commnet as that is based on subjective opinion based on your political beliefs. And how could I criticize that - particularly when I consider the remaing candidates down-right psychotic.

  14. #14

Speaking of two minutes, I just wasted about that much time, coming to this stupid website and leaving this comment. Into my block list you go.

  15. #15

Yeah if substantive political ideas are so boring to you then why did you bother posting this video? Oh yeah, you knew it would attract readers i.e. "Paultards" to your crummy blog. So enjoy the temporary influx of web visitors scumbag.

Never heard of this rag before, and now I can see why. Who are the editor and columnist? Their final copy reminds me of Beavis and Butthead dialog: Tweedledum and Tweedledumber.

  19. #19

Your website and newspaper is a huge joke.

  20. #20

Your obvious pain over the attention Dr. Paul unfailingly recieves by millions of us has made my weekend. Thank you so much and have a great weekend yourself.

  21. #21

Sure. You see a sign that Ron Paul is winding down his campaign, and you all don your little party hats and toot on your noise makers.

Too bad Ron Paul was the only candidate who has spent decades warning all of us of the consequences of bad legislation as it was being passed, explaining why it would be a disaster, and voting against it -- even if he ended up all alone.

Now that his predictions have come to pass, or are very obviously in the wings, America is passing up his sensible solutions in favor of ways to maximize the train wreck. Why? Because he was so far out of the mainstream.

When the mainstream is wrong, and has been for decades, pray tell who will you follow to get out of the mess?

Call it a herd mentality -- or "groupthink" if you want to pretend it's a peculiarly human failing, America is going down the tubes because of its collectivist mindset.

It is you, the keepers of the collectivist mantras (journalists, politicians, and the cynical exploiters), who bear the greatest blame in all of this. Whether you're promoting socialism on behalf of the disadvantaged, or war on behalf of some macho nationalist hive-ego, or mere compliance on behalf of the corporate-political complex, you have actively impeded the thoughtful consideration of unpopular alternative views.

We will all pay for it. Dearly.

  22. #22

America's fatal disease is its profound ignorance.

  23. #23

Ron Paul is the only candidate who was pointing out the fundamental flaws in our system of overextended debt, overextended empire, fiat currency, and the whole welfare/warfare state boondoggle. The same system which all the other candidates of both the Republican and Democrat parties enthusiastically embrace.

The economy is tanking for a reason. The dollar is sinking for a reason. The world hates us for a reason. Ron Paul pointed out those reasons. Ron Paul has been talking about the devaluing dollar for decades. In 2002, Ron Paul accurately predicted what would be the result of an invasion of Iraq. Ron Paul predicted the current credit crunch mess over six years ago. Almost nobody listened to his "crackpot theories" then. Only slightly more people are listening now.

All of those "Ron Paul for president!" bumper stickers will probably be replaced soon by ones that read "Don't blame me, I voted for Ron Paul" and "Ron Paul told you so."

  24. #24

Of course Ron Paul didn't get the memo from your web guys - no-one's ever heard of this paper before.
    And even if he is a has-been, which he ain't, I'd rather be a has-been than a never-gonna-be.

  25. #25

This is the worst, most childish political article I've ever seen.

This hack should be forever ashamed of himself.

But alas, the people who need most to be ashamed of themselves are the least able to be judgemental with themselves.

Guys like this are morally responsible for the idiotic state of our country.

"To the best of my knowledge and belief, the average American newspaper, even of the so-called better sort, is not only quite as bad as Upton Sinclair says it is, but 10 times worse, 10 times as ignorant, 10 times as unfair and tyrannical, 10 times as complaisant and pusillanimous, and 10 times as devious, hypocritical, disingenuous, deceitful, pharisaical, Pecksniffian, fraudulent, slippery, unscrupulous, perfidious, lewd and dishonest."
    -- H.L. Mencken

  27. #27

Yeah, candidates with integrity are dorks! Wow, that ignorant cheer made me feel like I belong now. Making stupid comments which are intended to marginalize others, without thinking about what I am really saying, makes me feel like I am part of a team! I never understood this in high school pep rally mentality, but it all makes sense now. People who don't share my same uninformed opinions are lame, I am cool, and I feel my confidence growing by the minute. Sieg Heil! Sieg Heil! Oh wait, wrong pep rally.

  28. #28

Oh well, this paper sounds like just one more arm of Stalin Media: boring, flippant, and full of servitude to the backroom benchwarmers who try to take America back to the Dark Ages. I am really beginning to appreciate Stalin Media--anything that disagrees with "it's" worldview is simply rubbed out. I think I'll try this at home. Goodbye, Washington City Paper.

  29. #29

You guys just gave Ron Paul free publicity! The Revolution thanks you! 7.5 minutes -- that's 7.4 minutes longer than the attention span of most voters. If they actually listened to what their candidates were saying, they would drop them and vote for Ron Paul!

I used to read your paper when I lived and work in the DC area. Frankly, I'm disappointed that you've compromised your intellectual and journalistic integrity by publishing a cheap shot, hit piece like this. Ron Paul is a lot of things, but definitely not a crack pot or a flip-flopper. Your paper used to be an interesting alternative to the garbage published in the Post and the Times, but now you've proven you're not an "alternative" at all. I bet you'll be the first and loudest to complain when McInsane, Osama, or Billary gets elected and more or less continues the nanny state policies of the current administration.

Don't blame us Ron Paul supporters, we warned you and you rejected truth, common sense, and most importantly, limited government based on the Constitution.

Even as his predictions are coming to pass, the media and the politicians still denigrate Ron Paul. The emperor has no clothes but you'll never learn that from the media or the powers that be.

  32. #32

    Let's see here...

This posting contained no useful information or substantive analysis, an incomplete quote taken out of context and a smarmy disregard for important ideas.

It looks like someone's got what it takes to be a big-time journalist for the MSM!

  33. #33

You know you're right. It was quite psychotic of me to believe in freedom and liberty. I forgot when we stopped being a free country and became a democracy. My fault for not keeping track of that. Wait. Did the democracy step towards oligarchy make its completion yet or... never mind. I'm asking the wrong people. I forgot I'm dealing with people who'd burn the Constitution in order to protect the flag. Who wants us to support the troops who are fighting for freedoms we hate more than our enemies supposedly do.

Wait. I'm trying to figure out which partisan dictatorship you represent. I pegged you as part of the Terrorist Party, I mean, Republican Party when for all my lack of researching of you is concerned, you may be supporting the liberal dictatorship. That you view me as a category instead of a person. A number instead of a name. A race instead of a human. Dependent instead of independent.

Oh, I'm sorry. I shouldn't say "liberal". The idea behind liberalism is to liberate which is what Democrats never do. They call themselves "progressives" and that a great word for them. Considering their goal is to turn America into an oppressive third world country, I'd say they're "progressing" quite well.

Oh well. As long as you're sleeping, I'm satisfied.

  34. #34

Ron Paul has never flipped-flopped on ANYTHING.

BTW how crackpot does returning the dollar to the gold standard seem now? Well I suppose I am a crackpot myself for suggesting that the world's reserve currency is in its death throws.

    Ignorance is indeed bliss.

What the public must understand is that the City Paper is part of the establishment media against Ron Paul.

The whole primary season was just a game of political charades foisted on the country by our establishment media. Ron Paul couldn't win, why?, because the media kept repeating it over and over again. The public still buys into the game. The liberal and conservative media definitely enjoy the game of choosing our candidate for us.

McCain was given an incredible amount of coverage on the GOP side. Why, because he had some so much conservative support, right? Everyone knows, most conservatives favor McCain. Of course Hillary or Obama were the only "real" choice on the Democratic side, based again on media preferences. What happened to Gravel, Kucinich or even John Edwards? No, they didn't have a chance. Why, because the media said so.

The media obviously has a preference and the coverage is based on their decision.

Where was the City Paper report, on the University Of Texas rally, before the Texas primary for Ron Paul, where over 5,000 people showed up.

Why didn't the City Paper report on the rally in Philadelphia where over 5,000 people attended.

Why don't they cover Ron Paul rallies?, because in their journalistic world, Ron Paul doesn't have a chance. How do they know he doesn't have a chance? Because, they said so. Yes, the people failed to see through the charade this election. We'll be back for another shot, next time.

Meanwhile, we will be busy campaigning for four Congressional candidates, on a Ron Paul slate that won the GOP primary in Maryland. Did the City Paper stand up and notice the win by these four. Of course not, the City Paper already stated clearly, Ron Paul and his supporters can't win anything. Never mind the facts. When, Ron Paul supporters win something, just ignore it. We all know that these Ron Paul supporters are just crackpots and can't win anything.

The Washington City paper is just an echo chamber for the big media deciders. The whole election is just about choosing who will win, just like going to a horse race. Just bet/vote for the perceived winner, based on the media handicap of who will win.

I say to the media, thanks for choosing our candidate for us. I refuse to vote for your candidate. I and many others will write in Ron Paul or vote Libertarian or Constitution Pary.

Watching the MSM's smear campaign, coming close to libel in some cases, against Ron Paul congeal like yesterday's oatmeal, I was rather surprised to find a two-bit blog launching fresh "crackpot" claims. So comes the influx of Ron Paul supporters with their rebuttals. On the Washington City Paper's part, what a cheap attempt for attention. It is also a significant insight into your character, Mr. Cherkis, that you find the concept of a sound dollar, a foreign policy that fosters peace, protecting our liberties and adherence to the Constitution good for "plenty of yuks." No matter, you and your cohorts are in the same boat as the Internet MSM. In their future, I see a return to the pre-Paul state of few visitors and little debate. How dull for all of you and your advertisers.

Read the comments to this post and you see why the Paulistas cannot organize a March on Washington. Each follower looks at the candidate’s very blank slate and sees the scrawled negation of his most irksome laws and regulations. Who could herd these caterwauling cats?

  40. #40

Flip-flops? Show me a flip-flop by DOCTOR Ron Paul in over 30 years in politics. Just one. Ever.

"[Martin Luther King] was not only a world-class adulterer, he also seduced underage girls and boys....lying socialist satyr....world-class philanderer who beat up his paramours....flagrant plagiarist with a phony doctorate." - Ron Paul, 1991, in a newsletter which he authored and later tried to blame on an anonymous ghost-writing staffer, putting himself in the position of having to choose between being a racist conspiracy-monger or an incompetent newsletter publisher.

"I oppose the Congressional Gold Medal for Rosa Parks Act" - Ron Paul, 1999, casting the sole vote against the medal for Rosa Parks and lamely attempting to mask his racist rhetoric behind the facade of libertarianism.

"Rosa Parks is one of my heroes. Martin Luther King is a hero." - Ron Paul, 2006, trying to make money of his MLK Day moneybomb.

Screw Ron Paul. Thank God that fascist confederate ass and his neo-nazi book advertising campaign disguised as presidential run are on the way out, though I wouldn't mind if he milked his credulous cult of followers for a little more cash so they can't afford any more guns or dialup access.

  41. #41

"“I oppose the Congressional Gold Medal for Rosa Parks Act”"

Ron Paul has voted against every Congressional Gold Medal, he is usually the only one voting no. They cost 30,000 dollars of tax payers money. He has on numerous occasions suggested that everyone put up $100 and congress could pay for them. There are never any takers.

  42. #42

I voted Ron Paul in Ohio I support him fully.i am not here as a whackjob or any other label the msm would like to call me, Dr Paul never flip flopped and he never will, unlike the other "movie star" like msm built up candidates
the biggest issue in this country right now is the economy and people losing their homes and McBush Clinton 2.0 and Obama know nothing of the economy or how to bring jobs, money back to this country
