D.C. Jail Still Sucks

From the legal blog In this Case, one man recounts his weekend stay at the D.C. Jail. He got tossed in there after getting picked up on a DWI charge (his second apparently). He recounts roaches, a lot of "motherfucker" this and that, and just general mass confusion. Here's a taste of the jail's intake process:

"They do a psychological test to check that you’re mentally stable. An AIDS test, a TB test. There’s a big desk, and there’s one CO waving guys in, and they’re constantly doing head counts to make sure they don’t lose anyone. The guards were pretty overwhelmed and confused. And understaffed. If something went down, someone could easily get hurt before anyone really responds. And then I could hear on all the radios, Code Blue, and about an hour or two later they were wheeling in this guy on a stretcher with blood all over him. He was strapped down, knocked out, blood all over him. I’m like, man, this is lawless. One CO got accidentally locked in the holding cell with us. There was dead silence in the room; he was pretty scared. I couldn’t believe something like that could happen. What if he was killed that night, right there? There were guys in that holding cell for attempted murder and this corrections officer was all alone. Complete lawlessness."

The narrative boasts more gritty details. You can read it all here.

I just got finished reading a blog where it showed the true feelings of heartless people.
Let me first start by saying not everyone is raised the same. people make mistakes of course and have full control over their actions everywhere in the united states. certain cities in the states remind me of third world countries especially DC.... _a lot of beliefs are thrown at you from birth to death. that because of skin color this, because you live here, this that and the third. I meet very intelligent people who honestly want a real job but were raised in the streets to make money illegally. theres a huge pressure to fit in as a child and if you don't, well it could be deadly... I experienced the dc streets first hand by choice for 3 years and never went to jail. I am a white woman that is not happy to admit I have hung with drug dealers, robbers, prostitutes, bums, drug addicts and all the scum you could imagine. I grew up in a beautiful md suburb and went to school college and worked since I was 15.. I had options those kids didn't. the jail is gross from what I hear and acting like its okay to let people live like that. no wonder most of them hate white communities.... its what they are taught. the jail reinforces that they should be treated like animals in their minds. all jails aren't the mgm grand in vegas or the hilton they are supposed to be tough correctional centers. CORRECTION... NOT ABUSE.... a lot of us know they never had equal options but damn even when they go to jail they have to get it worse than a lot of other cities. baltimore prisons are cages as well. they have the same kind of bars as the zoo does..... I can't believe the government lets it go on like that.... most ask why do they end up there in the first place but remember life there has different values for everything. breaking the law is breakin the law but lets treat our people like human beings... and stop letting them live on the streets and jails like animals.
