Cara Ober's work is highly derivative on it's own. It isn't original, and it is not interesting conceptually... There are plenty of immature artists all over the country creating the same kind of "art." If Bailey appropriated from similar sources and glib aesthetics, that's her business. Ms. Ober should examine the stages of her education and remember those she has appropriated from, then drop the subject.

Anna Foer,

If you were more familiar with Bailey's previous works you would know that she is a highly conceptual artist. She would never "copy" the art of another artist for the reasons you are alluding to. Anyone who knows the history of Bailey's work would know that this is very in line with her train of thought. Every decision she made for the exhibition was pre-meditated, there is no "cover up." End of story.

Some companies make things. Good things, but, you know…things.

Hallmark is another kind of company.

We play a unique role in defining and expressing friendship and family and love – and we’ve done it for nearly 100 years.

Would you like to be a part of that?

Cara? Christine? Jordan?

I am a collage artist, working at MICA, living in Annapolis. My work is very different from the work described in this article. I read about this controversy on Lenny Campenello's blog. I am sickened by what Bailey did. I think she tried to cover up for herself by fabricating the story about appropriating. If that concept was so important why wasn't it an integral part of the text at the show?

Why would an artist, given a chance to show their work, want to use that opportunity to do such an underhanded thing? Is she insecure about her own work? Why didn't she want to show us what she does? Couldn't she find a way to make a comment about copying someone's work but do it using her own voice?

All artists suffer as a consequence. It debases the experience and creates mistrust and doubt in the mind of the audience.

Bailey should not be allowed to show in this region for a long, long time!
