Nice Job Picking Up Capitalweather.com, But…
Starting today, the excellent Capital Weather blog now operates under the Washington Post umbrella. It was a genius move on the Post's part, snagging a local blog that's newsy and entertaining--and, for a newbie East Coaster like myself, a useful window into the ridiculously unpredictable weather.
That unpredictability speaks to one flaw in how the site is currently functioning under the Post regime. The best part of Capitalweather.com, now renamed Capital Weather Gang, is its "Forecast Confidence" graphic, which lets you know at a glance how much stock to put into the site's predictions. Looking at the site through a feedreader, though, removes the "Forecast Confidence" graphic. (Those images always appeared in the old site's feed.)
It may seem like small complaint, but a Web operation as allegedly up-to-date as the Post's should realize that not including this graphic in its RSS feed is a bit like not including the score in a sports story. Maybe the Post's keepers are outsmarting us, though; this could be a plot on their part to force people out of their feedreaders and onto the site itself, where we can be bombarded with all manner of advertising.

A bit like the CityDesk Blogs RSS feed which only includes the first few sentences of a given post. Forcing us back to the site where we can be bombarded by all manner of ads. Hmmmm....

I stand by my right to be a whiny hypocrite! Besides, I have no control over City Desk's RSS feed; if enough people groused that they wanted full posts in their feed readers, I imagine we'd listen. (Not *act*, perhaps, but we'd listen.)

not on topic here, but no one at CPHQ responded to an email i sent, so maybe it can get answered here.
did you guys print an issue last week? if so, i can't find it anywhere. if not, why not?

Drop the City Desk e-mail a line saying where and when you couldn't find it--or, heck, post it here--and we'll see what we can do.

i looked in the box on the southwest corner of 16th and K (usually a good place to look if i can't find them in my usual box at 8th and R by the shaw station). usually, if you don't grab a copy by friday evening at the busier boxes, they're all gone.
anyway, i was out of town, got back in sunday afternoon, and checked those locations (as well a a few others that were all empty). 16th and K had (maybe still has) the music review issue in the window, and the eastern market fire issue in the box itself. no sign of anything newer.
even your website only shows the eastern market fire issue on this page.
