Orioles Still Unloveable

Let us break from mourning the loss of Hilda Mason with this completely unnecessary posting about the Orioles…

Unlike everyone else I know, I have not ditched the O’s for the new hometown team. But, shit, if the Orioles aren’t just the most hateable sports franchise around. Over the weekend, it decided to become the first team out of the dugout to hate on the Mitchell Report. The New York Times, reports it here.

Sure the Mitchell Report describes the Orioles as a juice factory (and still no playoff run!). But the O’s have no business critiquing the methodology of the report. Why not refute the allegations one by one?

  1. Chris Says:

Not defending the O’s here - and I’m a diehard fan, still - but teams like the O’s and Yankees have a right to be upset that they were portrayed, by omission, as the only teams in MLB who had guys on the juice.

The Mitchell Report was limited by which sources they could get to speak; just because the Red Sox (just for example) had no notable players named in the report, does not mean that none of their players were juicing. It just means that their resident steroid supplier hasn’t been unmasked yet.

  2. Tony Lumpkin Says:

It would be fairer (and accurate) to work backwards and assume that all athletes are using performance-enhancing drugs. Cripes, many of the guys I know that have serious competitive sports hobbies are on something.
