Susan, are you talking about class or race? I suspect you are using class as a proxy for race, ergo you are a racist. Don't globalize what a few bad apples have done to an entire race of people. (Nor to an entire socioeconomic class) In terms of class, both my husband and I came from families that relied on public assistance at one time or another, we both put ourselves through college and graduate/professional school and both are now professionals.

I don't know why anyone would be concerned for Walters' welfare in prision-isn't a prison streach an expected, even anticipated, part of life among the lower classes? She had a legitimate job, a safe patronage job, a ticket to the middle class, but her ghetto origins were stronger, and no amount spending could turn that coarse old ho into anything else. Remember OJ and how he spent his money- glass trinkets, designer shoes-and still no self respect. Don't worry about Walters-she's going where she's supposed to go-she'll be fine. A streach in the big house is the same to her class as a marathon cross-country drive in a VW bus was to the baby boomers-a right of passage.

You know if she pulled it off...there are probably larger scams. I refused to believe a woman whose "smart look" is blond dreadlocks, outwited the system...the system just seems easy to cheat.

Owning such items doesn't give one class. Clearly all the people ivolved in this mess are lacking even the simpliset form of class. Not to mention honesty, integrity, and doing the job for which they were paid for. Let's see what else now happens with this and who else gets their personal items listed in the newspaper for all of us to read about. I just wonder how well Harriett can handle prison in those expensive shoes. Think they'll get her any time before some of the other inmates force her to do "real time." Or maybe she'll set up shop in the Penn as a "big boss" and promise all of those that protect her money when she gets out. The federal government should put all of her family in prison and throw away the key.

OK, I call bullshit on the Faberge egg. There's no way that she had one of the original 68 Faberge eggs. I don't think the whole $31 million could have covered that. Tacky reproduction, I'm sure.
