District Employees Steal $20 Million
Whoa. Even by the lofty standards of public corruption in this town, this one is staggering.
According to a Washington Post story posted a few minutes ago, federal prosecutors this afternoon will be filing charges against Harriette Walters and Diane Gustus, officials in the Office of Tax and Revenue, for embezzling some $14 to $20 million in an elaborate money laundering scheme.
Key line: "Law enforcement sources said the sheer size of the theft will rival any previous D.C. corruption case."
Wow.

This does not surprise me at all. I knew something was going on early last year and wrote Mayor Fenty at that time he was councilman in ward 4. I have had major concerns with property that was sitting and not on the auction list and getting money back from tax properties that should have not been in the auction. Ms. Newman should have resigned after this because in my opinion she was part of this coruption as well. I'm pretty sure it will come out later. Kudos for the FBI Now if we can clean up two other agencies Medicaid / Mental Health
