More on the Washington Post Overbooking Drama

The whole Washington PostCarol Gotbaum story just got a bit more interesting. Recapping the relevant facts: On Oct. 14, an Outlook piece by A.L. Bardach stated that Gotbaum’s controversial death at the Phoenix airport may have been related to the overbooking ways of the airline, US Airways. Then, a week later, the Post corrected itself, saying, “The woman was denied a seat because she arrived late at the gate, after the door to the overbooked flight had been closed.” The correction followed a letter from US Airways taking issue with the Post story.

The latest chapter hit the Post Web site just this afternoon. It’s a response from Bardach, who does a nice job of sticking up for her reporting. There’ll be more on this one—police probes, litigation, investigative reporting. Stay tuned.
