Just Browsing? A Likely Story….

Security is tight for Jenna Bush's Friday reading of her book, Ana's Story, at Politics & Prose. From the bookstore's newsletter:

If you come to the store any time after we open until 12:30 p.m., be prepared to pass through security. If you want to come upstairs and you park in back, you will have to come around to the front. We apologize for this inconvenience.

All members of the public must pass through security when entering Politics and Prose on Friday, October 5 between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. No photographs. Ms. Bush will be signing only, no personalizations. School groups attending the event will have priority seating.

This is standard practice for readings featuring federal bigwigs and the people who love them, of course. Here's the list of rules for Bill Clinton's signing of My Life at P&P in 2004:

1. One book per customer will be signed. No exceptions.
2. Each customer must be present to get a book signed. There will not be any 'holds for signing' like we customarily do.
3. Only copies of My Life will be signed. No other items, books, papers, or campaign memorabilia will be signed by President Clinton.
4. No photographs are allowed.
5. President Clinton will not be personalizing any books.
6. Because of the huge demand, we cannot promise that everyone's book will be signed.

See? Similar to the Ana's Story rules. Except for the "huge demand" part.
