Passport to Planet Wait, Part II

Five weeks and one day. That's how long it takes to get an "expedited" passport, which is just a hair outside the "two to five weeks" I was told at the P.O. July 16.

So plan accordingly, world travelers, if you're putting together a fall itinerary that includes a trip to the Freindly Fun Franks hostel in Riga, Latvia---''Party Captial of the Baltics." It won a Hoscar in 2005. I'm just saying.

Protip: Call your member of Congress and ask if you and a staffer can walk down to the passport office with your application, photo and the cash for an expedited passport down to the passport office in Longworth and get it done that way. Then follow up in 3 to 5 days. From the time they start processing it, it will take 3 to 7 business days if you paid for the expedited passport and had the staffer fib and say that you will need it within three weeks. It will work like a charm.
