Not sure if this is what happened, but it's possible they dialed the wrong number and the guy, who gets these misdialed calls for this restaurant, "took" the reservation anyway (as a slightly warped way of taking out his frustration for getting the same wrong number all the time).

When I was growing up our phone number was one digit off from a popular fancy seafood restaurant. And yes, I admit my sister and I would sometimes "take" reservations for them (especially when people called at obscenely early hours of the morning to make them ... what were they thinking? Who makes reservations at 7 a.m.?)

I think a lot of people showed up at Catch of the Sea and threw hissy fits. Oh well.
