Petworth Resident: “So What He Got Murdered!”

Domku. Temperance Hall. Babies. For those left still wondering whether Petworth has fully become a gentrified neighborhood, we give you nathanmboggs writing on the ‘hood’s message board after a recent murder:

Not to be callous or anything. But, this isn’t news. Who cares? I mean really. These young guys hang on the corners selling drugs into the wee hours in the morning. So what he got murdered! That’s the cost they pay to do business? So in that sense, the world is rid of one unproductive animal. Hell, if it wasn’t against the law, I’d love to kill a couple of them myself! Petworth will be all the better with his passing….Let the drug dealers, robbers, and the killers have at each other. And for the lucky ones that survive, hopefully the police can take care of them. I’ll just buy more prison stock and try to recoup some of my taxes spent feeding the animals that don’t learn their lesson from this.

Thankfully, the Petworth board slammed the poster for his comments, telling him he should seek counseling, and just all-around put him in his place. Yesterday afternoon, he posted, “And for the record, I am a black man. So don’t go calling me some racist.”

This guy is kinda awesome in a Vice City kinda way.

  2. Jeff Says:

Nathan Boggs was posting his messages from a US Dept. of Justice ip address. I’m sure he feels right at home in the Bush/Gonzales DOJ.

  3. Legal Beagle Says:

Yeah, but yunno, a lot of people may agree with him…
This death is a tragedy, in a city with too many such tragedies.

I would not have sympathized with the guy up until 2 weeks ago when I was brutally punched in the face by some gangbanger kid at the Georgia Ave/Petworth metro stop. This was as 6:30 pm in the evening. My offence? I have no idea. I wasn’t even robbed. No doubt the kid continues to talk big smack about how he “unkinged” this white dude in plain daylight in a public place. Well you know what, if this kid got his sorry pathetic ass “unkinged” by a bullet in a gangbanger shooting, you know how i’d feel? Pretty much the same as nathanmboggs.

I’m sorry, my understanding of the cool hip-hop ways to glorify violence is not great. But I take it the term is “to uke” which means to hit someone in the face with the aim of knocking them unconscious. Gerund: Uking.

Hate to say it, but NathanMBoggs is EXACTLY right. What he says is what I and many of my friends say every day…and we are all black, white, and every color in between. What do have in common is that we are well-educated and have invested in these neighborhoods. NathanMBoggs just has the guts to say outloud what most of us only say to ourselves or among our close friends and family. The people out here committing these crimes are animals. Anyone who disgrees with Nathan clearly doesn’t live in Petworth or one of these other neighborhoods where people are trying to make things better but just not succeeding fast enough. All the dealers and such can shoot one another until they are all dead; just don’t take me, my family, or the innocent kid riding his/her bike on the corner out too. Come to think of it, maybe we should just start giving these animals some target practice so that they can perfect their aim.
