Did Yvette Alexander Steal Campaign Propaganda?
Ward 7 D.C. Council candidate Yvette Alexander seems to be taking a page from the campaign of Ward 4 council hopeful Michael Brown. Literally.
Last week, Brown sent out a campaign update e-mail touting the fact that he drew the No. 2 slot on the May 1 special-election ballot. The missive included a graphic of a sample ballot that blurred out the names of other candidates and highlighted Brown's position.
On March 27, Alexander, who will also appear in the No. 2 slot, sent a similar e-mail featuring her face, a Ward 7 special-election ballot, and her name clearly printed with her opponents' blurred.
But there was something wrong with Alexander's graphic. As her e-mail points out, Alexander is No. 2 among "18 candidates in the Ward 7 race." Her ballot has 19 names. The blurred names don't really match up with the Ward 7 contestants. In position 19 for example, the obscured name looks a lot like Dwight Singleton's, a Ward 4 candidate. And isn't that Ward 4 hopeful Muriel Bowser in the No. 6 position?
LL would never suggest that Alexander's Web team would simply lift the Brown graphic and insert Ward 7 and her name at the top. Perhaps her staff just used the wrong ballot as their template.
But the similarites don't end with the ballots. Check these passages from the accompanying press releases. Here's Brown's:
Today at noon, the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics held a lottery to determine ballot positioning in the upcoming Special Election on May 1st. We are pleased to say that we drew the 2nd position out of 19!...
With little more than 6 weeks until the May 1st Special Election, I need your help and involvement more than ever.
And here's Alexander's:
The D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics held a lottery to determine ballot positioning in the upcoming Special Election on May 1st. We are blessed that we drew 2nd position out of 18 candidates in the Ward 7 race !....
With little more than 6 weeks until the May 1st Special Election, I am pleased that my campaign is moving in a positive and fast-forward direction.
You be the judge! The ballots are after the jump.

12:04 pm[...] candidate in Ward 7 endorsed by council Chairman Vincent Gray—Yvette Alexander—follows the same copycat act, right down to lifting Gray’s “One City” campaign slogan (her version: [...]

THIS IS PATHETIC!! Yvette with all the money and resources that Chairman Gray's endorsement brings can't do her own graphics, or design her own e-mailer??? I saw the message but didn't look that closely; it's just soo cheesy that she would lift the idea, the graphics and the text from Michael Brown. Where's any sense of pride or decency? It's beyond laughable!

IF this is what gets your moral outrage you have not lived long enough.
The vendor probably sold it to both persons. There are only a few campaign people everyone uses. It is more embarassing for that person.

It is embarrassing enough all the candidates have large poster signs posted over Ward 7, but to copy someone else graphics is just PATHETIC!! And Untrustworthy as a CANDIDATE.
Thank you Vince

Chairman Gray has no idea what he has done. Yvette Alexander is not fit to be the Ward 7 Council member neither is Emily Washington for that matter. The two act just like children at the last candidates forum which was held at the Marvin Gay's center. The two laugh and carried on their own conversations the whole night while other candidates were speaking to the community. If ths is what we have to lookforward to Ward 7 is in trouble. Greg Rhett always wants you to check the backgrounds of all the candidates, what about checking his police record? People should wake up and see the real truth about some of these candidates. The only ones who were making any since were Victor Vandell and Mark Long.

Dear "Concern Citizen"
Oh yes, I strongly encourage people to check the backgrounds of each and every candidate. I have absolutely nothing to hide. I have no ciriminal record. Your anonymous insinuation is absolutely shameful and disgraceful. Please, by all means, why don't you check my background for criminal records or as you say, "police record." Then, after you have completed this check, and found nothing, please have the courage to report back, via this same forum, your findings. Please share whatever documentation that proves your findings. I openly challenge you and anyone else to provide documented proof of any crimiinal past, on my part, which should be documented by any official police or court records. Anonymous rumors and innuendos simply are tools of low-down, dirty cowards and dirty political tricksters. Unfortunately for you and your favored candidates, the real question still comes back to what exactly (backed by documented proof) have they ever done, for anyone, anywhere, at anytime in Ward 7. When you're finished playing games and are ready to talk about the real issues affecting the good people of Ward 7, please call me at (202) 550-4612. I signed my name, why won't you? You've made the accusation; what are you afraid of?

Yes, Yvette Alexander did steal campaign propaganda......
Vincent Gray should of never endorsed her. He should of stayed out of it and let the Ward 7 residents choose who they want. Just because Vincent Gray endorsed her doesn't mean she is the most qualified. Victor Vandell has NOT been a resident of Ward 7 long enough to be a viable candidate for the Ward 7 City Council.
