You have to put the context of the remarks from the Tenley Liststerv into proper context. The NIMBYs have been opposed to every development proposal in the Upper Wisconsin Corridor for the past 10 years (or more).

They complained that too many GDS students were parking in the neighborhood and forced the school to build a parking garage. Now they are complaining about the vehicular traffic the new garage is generating.

They complain that they don't want new development because there are too many cars. developers have offered to build in excess of 2 parking spots per unit to ensure new cars don't park on the streets. They oppose that, so the counter is, well if you don't want cars then don't have any spaces and encourage the new residents to use Metro/Metro Bus.

After all, we are talking about development proposals that sit on top of Metro stations.

The NIMBYs made development an issue in the 2006 Ward 3 primary and were routed. Their voice is increasingly marginalized in the marketplace of ideas, and this scares the bejesus out of them.

If they don't like the urban setting, they should move to Frederick County, MD where it is serene and they won't have to worry about this kind of development.
