What are you all nuts? The writer of the post and anonymous commentors have got this all wrong.

This is not only high camp. It's the first instant cult classic since Showgirls. And I can watch that again and again (and have). It's the so bad its good. And if they come up with some esoteric title that would have just ruined the whole thing. Samuel L. realized that from the get go. (And rumor is he's the one that suggested the title.)

And it's also the perfect high concept movie. A concept where the 10 second pitch has become the opening credits, the advertising, the whole buzz: Samuel L. Jackson in Snakes on the Plane. That's it. That's all you have to say to the writer, to potential audience, to the executive producers. It's the most efficient Hollywood as ever been. It translates perfectly into every language of the globe. Hollywood reached perfection here.

mmm I didn't mean my comments so harshly as you took them. If it was a combo of blaxploitation-tribute and Scary Movie style parody, it might work okay as a beat-the-heat time passer. If it's played straight, it's a loser.

I agree. It is a dumb idea to make a movie about snakes on a plane. There is no unpredictability. There is no mystery. I am greatly disappointed that Samuele L. Jackson decided to do this movie. I am actually disappointed that Samuele L. Jackson actually read the script, in the first place. Just from the title, you should be able to tell that this is simply a dumb idea to make a movie about. This movie should not have been made at all.

"a title so powerfully evocative that everyone who hears it instantly creates the perfect horror movie in their head."

Sorry, I just don't get that. The way the title and caste plays to me is parody.
