I hope someone took the time to ask the Mayor what he thought his comments on adding 850 police would do for the current crime situation since it will take three to five years to get them on the street.
Also since his cozy relationship with Herb Miller may just cause the District to go $83 million over the stadium cap- where does he intend to find the money to pay for the cops- Oh i forgot he won’t be here when the bill comes due!
It is totally irresponsible for this Mayor who has been credited for bringing the city back from bankruptcy to leave the next Mayor-whoever it will be, such a mess.
I would urge the Mayor to spend the next five months in town- I realize he just cancelled his trip to Budapest- guess the Mayor there can handle the opening of a local swimming pool alone unlike the Mayor of Paris- and work on these issues and leave the next Mayor something to work with.
We have seen politicians ruin hard earned legacy’s in their last few months before and that would be a shame. Anthony Williams did a lot for this City and I hope we get to remember him for that and not for these last few months.
Crime emergencies won’t be solved by throwing out different ideas every day. They will only be solved by hard work and real programs dealing with the issues of poverty, education and job training. Let’s begin to work on those programs in the next five months instead of attacking each other and trying to fool people into thinking we are doing something when we are not.
The people of the City deserve that from a Mayor whose salary we are still paying even if he seems to just want to get away from DC.
