Mayor’s Schedule

What’s the District’s chief exec really up to today?

One Response to “Mayor’s Schedule”

  1. Anonymous Says:

The Mayor really showed his true colors on this Howard University/NCMC project.

The only explanation for the entire scenario was that the Mayor originally thought he may run again and this was going to be a project to make nice to the contituency East of the Anacostia.

Any other scenario leaves the Mayor looking even worse. The reasons he has cited now for a change of heart on NCMC are reasons that were just as valid and evident when this project was first being discussed. And they were definetly evident when he signed that very public agreement with the President of Howard.

Yet there is even one other even more venal scenario. That is that Linda Cropp- the Mayor’s choice to succeed him- realized that she was in between a rock and a hard place on this. After telling the community that she suports the hospital she realized that some of her money people weren’t in agreement. She even quietly stated that she favors a certificate of need quietly at a forum after extolling the hospital first at length. We know that one of her leading supporters and fundraisers, and former Barry Administration Official, Michael Rogers, is now with Medstar. He has been heard going around town saying to potential supporters that Linda isn’t really for the hospital which Medstar opposes.

If she could play dumb like she did with the Baseball stadium, and suggest she didn’t know what is going on, and have the Mayor withdraw his support she could get off the hook.

Its hard to believe that these politicians would play fast and loose with people’s lives this way, but also not impossible to believe.

It is really time to send them all packing. The Mayor’s press office accused Patrick Swygert of calling the Mayor a bad name yesterday when he called the Mayor a “lame duck”. Maybe we can say both Cropp and the Mayor are “lame ducks”.

I think the people of the District may be better off if the Council did’t come back into session from their Spring vacation until after the primary and the Mayor just continued his jaunts out of the District till then. At least after September 12th we will see their true colors come out and not be fooled by all this political chicanery.
