Ed Committee to Barry? Not Just Yet.
Ward 8 Councilmember Marion S. Barry Jr. still has a flair for tossing out big political statements—even if they aren’t true.
At a March 21 meeting of the Ward 8 Business Council, Barry told the small crowd gathered at the offices of the East of the River Development Corporation that he was backing At-Large Councilmember Vincent Gray‘s bid to be elected council chairman. But Barry didn’t stop with an endorsement. He went on to say that if Gray wins, Barry would become chair of the council’s Committee on Education and Libraries.
Could it be that Gray is already striking deals with councilmembers to garner political support? Not exactly. Gray, who is running for the top council spot against Ward 3 Councilmember Kathy Patterson, says he never promised Barry or anyone else a committee chairmanship in return for an endorsement. “He probably wants it,” Gray says. “But I haven’t made any commitments. We’ve got to get elected first.”

Vincent Gray is far better qualified to be our next Council Chair despite his short tenure on the council.
Gray will bring equality to all and not just to white people whom Patterson only cared about.

If his short tenure on the council is not in consideration, what exactly DOES qualify Gray more than Patterson?

Well, thanks for giving me a reason to vote for anybody but Gray. The thought of Barry in charge of education makes my blood run cold.
Also, can I say how sick i am of racist comments like that made by anon. above? Vote for somebody bc. they would be good at the job, not bc. you hate the other candidate's race for god's sake.

good riddance when ms patterson loses...mr gray will be a better chairman of council. patterson has mood swings and is mean. just watch her on channel 16. i dont think she has the vision thing either and bill rice would make an excellent city council member.
