Phosphorescent @ DC9 Tonight

It’s hard to imagine how Matthew Houck, better known as Phosphorescent, is going to capture the feel of his highly atmospheric album, Pride, in a rock club. Because much of the album sounds like 15 Will Oldhams doing shape note singing at the bottom of an empty swimming pool, Houck’s yearning Americana is bound to be a headache for whatever sound guy is going to be stuck dialing the Brooklyn based singer-songwriter into DC 9’s board this evening. Or maybe not? Perhaps Houck will just show up with 15 Will Oldhams? Or maybe he’ll just pull out an acoustic guitar and hope for the best? Only way to find out is to show up tonight.

Phosphorescent performs with Virgin Forest
9 p.m. @ DC9 $10
1940 9th Street, NW
