Maryland Stoner/Doom Guitarist Goes Solo
For the past 25-years Maryland-based guitarist Scott “Wino” Weinrich has more or less towered over the stoner-rock and doom-metal communities like some sort of unthinkable Cthulian Cthulhian overlord–delivering genre-defining heaviness in bands like The Obsessed, Spirit Caravan, and The Hidden Hand.
But now he’s on his own I guess. January 20th, he’ll be releasing the CD/2xLP Punctuated Equilibrium via Southern Lord. The album was engineered by J. Robbins and features contributions from Paul Gaster (Clutch, The Bakerton Group) on drums and Jon Blank (Rezin) on bass.
The instrumental “The Woman in the Orange Pants” is currently posted here. It’s pretty heavy, obviously, with a little bit of high-range guitarmony to balance out the sludge. I’m not entirely certain what it has to do with orange pants though.

I believe it’s “Cthulhian,” not “Cthulian.” And I only point this out to ensure you are not devoured with extreme prejudice by the Massive One or his star-spawn.
