The Ex Last Night…

Pop Cesspool has an appropriate to-the-point item on last night’s show at the Black Cat. After seeing the Ex and Getatchew Mekuria co-mingle punk, post-punk, Space Is the Place, free jazz clarinet skronk, and ecstatic semi-funk, there just isn’t much to report back to your pals other than superlatives: top-five best show of all time, awesome, oh-my-God, etc.

A few quick notes: The sound actually was amazing. And I was moved to actually buy their collab album….

And hipster a-holes will talk through anything. When the Ex left the stage for a Mekuria slow turn, you could hear plenty of chatter in the back. I thought: They will probably never see this man perform again. He is a legend. And yet people are still talking. Two women huddled behind me staring deep into a cellphone. Their faces lit by the cell’s glow. Lame.

i don’t know about anyone else, but what would really have made me happy about that show would have been if the beam holding up the ceiling on the right side of the hall had buckled and spilled 2,700 pounds of iron girders on the fucktard who spent half the show holding his cell-video-yuppie asshole thing in the air, filming, so that everyone behind him had to crane around him. people have to learn that others aren’t there to watch the show on their 3-inch square screen and would rather see horrible things happen to their 3-inch long dick. other than that, yes, great, fabulous show, a dream come true, so much creativity and spirit, it was incredible.

Aye. ButDespite a handful of no-attention-span doofuses, this was largely a gadget-free show. One guy did cut in front of me to take a few pix, but he moved on quickly. He seemed pretty aware of his annoying-ness, so maybe he wasn’t the fucktard you’re talking about.
