MaCRoCk Festival This Weekend

Dischord will be holding court at this weekend’s MaCRoCk festival at James Madison University. The festival–which stands for Mid-Atlantic College Radio Conference–has been an annual affair for some time now. It started in 1996. I think I went to the second one. Back then it was small–a few nights of bands, a few tables set up for labels to sell their goods. [Full disclosure: I skipped seeing Elliott Smith!]

The festival has grown to be a big deal.

The festival’s website boasts an impressive list of bands/artists that have taken part in the shindig:

Animal Collective, The Appleseed Cast, Avail, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Black Mountain, Bobby Bare Jr., Converge, Darkest Hour, Dillinger Escape Plan, The Dismemberment Plan, Elliott Smith, The Faint, Fin Fang Foom, Fugazi, Hot Water Music, Magnolia Electric Co., Man Man, Matt Pond PA, Mastodon, Medications, Mewithoutyou, Owen, Prefuse 73, Q and not U, The Walkmen, Wolf Eyes, and The Wrens

This weekend’s lineup includes Black Moth Super Rainbow, Maps and Atlases, Elf Power, and Aloha among many, many others. The list of bands is pretty overwhelming.

D.C.’s own Len Bias will be playing on Friday evening. And Dischord will be operating a record booth. You can register for tickets here.
