Window Shopping

Melody Records

Melody Records, one of the last (and probably the most beloved) independent record stores in D.C., also has one of the last record-store display windows just about anywhere. I walk past Melody on my way home, and lately have found myself stopping to visually sort through the box sets and new releases that sit below those neon signs.

Not only are they great selections, but they tend to be a great bargain. This week I purchased two 4-CD box sets there, a Stan Getz and a Charley Patton. Both were under 30 bucks. And they’d been sitting there for months on end, in plain view of passersby on Connecticut Avenue - a place that’s not exactly hurting for passersby. Most of the other stuff in the window has also been there for months.

Does nobody else buy stuff out of Melody’s display window? Does anyone else even look?
