Great to hear from you! I haven’t checked this blog in a while. I was shocked on January 2, 2007 when I got a voice mail from the club that I had won. I ran around the gym with excitement hugging my brother and rushing home to find the "golden ticket" in order to claim the prize and officially get on the guest list. I never expected it! It got to the point where I just enjoyed dropping off clothes and canned goods in order to help others for the holidays. I still remember the year we had the ticket right after the winning number and actually a piece of it but that didn’t count!

A show you would have enjoyed was Dark Star Orchestra on 12/1/07. I took a couple friends from high school and their spouses to re-live our deadhead years from the late 80's mid 90's. They played a great set from Berkeley '89. I think my guests peaked too early and left at intermission. The next day I was dragging at work and I never heard from the friend I was supposed to take to night two of Dark Star Orchestra. I was ready to go home when "Scarlet Begonias" came on the ipod at the gallery. Of course, I went to the 9:30 and the second night was another night from Berkeley '89 that was even better!

A few times throughout the year, I ran into your friends from the book group at the club and they said you were doing great at school. Keep in touch! Maybe I'll see you in the "heart","elipse", or whatever U2 calls the section in front of the stage when they go on tour in 2009! U23D is great but there’s nothing like being right in front of Bono, Edge, Adam, and Larry!

"Love and Peace or Else"

Todd

I also wanted to wish the club a Happy 28th Birthday today! My first show at 930 F St wasn't until Fishbone c. 1986 and I didn't become a regular at 815 V St until 1999. I wasn't planning on going tonight but I won a pair of tickets! See you this evening 9:30 Club. Thanks for the many memories.

This news is coming late to me as I just decided to google you tonight (although I think of you daily). I am THRILLED you won this!!!! What a blessing! This gives me peace of mind. You of all people deserved to win that fucking 9:30 raffle!!!! (We spent many lunch breaks hiking to the 9:30 with bags of clothes in the middle of blustery winter....it was an adventure..).

I'm glad to know you had a fantastic year and that your are progressing with DFA and that whole scene. That is beautiful.

I wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart.

Peace & Love,

Thanks again for sneaking me into your row at Bloc party at United Palace. One of my favorite non 9:30 shows of 2007.

Ryan

Arcade Fire at the Judson might not have had the same sound as when I saw them at the 9:30 in 2005 but it was truly an incredible experience to see that band with 300 other lucky people. Hopefully Thievery will do another run at the club in 2008!

A couple others to throw in just outside the prize...Dec 06 9:30 Thievery Corporation and Feb 07 Arcade Fire at Judson Memorial Church in NYC. Some of the best shows I've seen. Thanks Todd!

Amanda,

In the beginning I was going too much. Then I realized I had to pace myself for the warmer months and better shows. Plus I got scolded jokingly by a bartender I've known for many years that " I was taking the prize too literally and didn't have to come every night!" I think I skipped about 100 shows at the 9:30 club last year such as these that I just couldn't drag myself to even to people watch: Cute Is What We Aim For w/All Time Low, This Providence, Brighton ( After going to Anberlin for a little while the night before I couldn't handle another bad show plus I needed to rest up for the late show of Everclear), Jack's Manequin (a snow storm and the Oscars helped reinforce the decision to stay away), Isis, Cartel, Down, Paramore, Static X, Relient K, Mae, Chevelle, Canibal Corpse, The Academy Is..., The Remedy Tour, Bid D and The Kids Table.

Another favorite from 2007 I forgot was The Hold Steady w/ Art Brut and it was fun to see GWAR again!

Todd: Are there any of last year's 9:30 shows you just wouldn't go to, even though they were free?
