TMZ: R.I.P. Pimp C

Everybody’s favorite obnoxious gossip site says that Pimp C, the beatmaking, rabble-rousing half of UGK, died this morning in Hollywood. Here’s our review of the Houston group’s latest disc, Underground Kingz.

  1. Brent Burton Says:

The NYT headline calls him a “Hip-Hop Rapper.” Are there any other kinds of rappers?

  2. Joe Warminsky Says:

I think the problem was the already existing hyphen in “hip-hop,” combined with the headline writer’s inflexible sense of what modifiers were necessary in the headline.

Or maybe “Southern hip-hop artist” was too short to fit the print-headline box. “Southern rapper” certainly was.

In any case, yeah, it’s lame.
