Take It to the Bridge, Week 8: Bridging the Light
Annie Albagli's "Bridging the Light," which opens today, possesses a couple of subtle aims. Riffing on the influence of Richard Diebenkorn, whose exhibition runs at the Corcoran through Sept. 23, Albagli's screenprints on polyester film play with light as it filters through the bridge and into the gallery.
While the artist is fond of San Francisco-area artists, it wasn't the exhibition in the Corcoran that inspired Albagli's installation: it was her time as an artist-in-residence at the Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, Calif. Sure, walking around the Bay area isn't exactly Ocean Park (which is outside of Los Angeles), but 3,000 miles away from California, it's a lot more colorful than the Foggy Bottom.
"Bridging the Light" is on view at the Corcoran Gallery of Art Sept. 5 to Sept. 9.
