Take It to the Bridge, Week 2: Chajana denHarder
Some artists have probably been accused of sleeping on the job. Saturday, visitors to the Corcoran will see exactly that. As part of the museum's "Take It to the Bridge" series, co-presented by the Washington Project for the Arts, performance artist Chajana denHarder will crawl up into the bridge space above the museum's entrance and attempt to sleep for seven hours. Sounds simple enough, albeit pretty uncomfortable: consider the heat-conductive properties of glass, the throngs of people walking below, and the lack of scheduled pee breaks. It's an endurance act, but denHarder's performance also explores presentation, the role of the object, the negation of performance by performer, and the meaning of performance to begin with.
Take it to the Bridge runs to Sept. 15 at the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
