The downtown Bethesda gallery space that was previously home to the Fraser Gallery is set to reopen next month.

The Bethesda Urban Partnership—-the nonprofit established by Montgomery County in 1994 to promote downtown Bethesda—-announced today that it will reopen the newly christened Gallery B in mid-October.

However, there will be no gallerist as there was in the space’s previous incarnation. Catriona Fraser, who ran the gallery from its opening in 2002 until she closed its doors last spring, mounted a range of well-reviewed exhibits in photography, figurative painting, sculpture and other genres.

The board and staff of the Bethesda Urban Partnership will manage the space and coordinate group exhibitions, said Stephanie Coppula, the partnership’s Director of Marketing & Communications. In addition, artists will be able to rent the space on a monthly basis between December 2011 and May 2012 for a below-market rate.

“The gallery will be open to interested artists in all media,” Coppula said.

The first exhibit will feature architect and sculptor Mark Kramer, who will present, “A Retrospective of Figurative Bronzes” from Oct. 12 to Nov. 5. (A cast bronze is pictured.)

The official opening is scheduled for October 14, with a reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in conjunction with the Bethesda Art Walk.

Gallery B will be located at 7700 Wisconsin Ave., Suite E, Bethesda
