Road Tattoo

We commented in June that Steed Taylor and Gallery Plan B were in discussion with the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Department of Transportation to paint a "Road Tattoo" in front of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on Vermont Avenue. Nearly a month later that project has been approved, and it will be completed this weekend. Traffic and parking restrictions will be imposed along the 800 block of Vermont Avenue after rush hour Friday. Work on the project will be stretch from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday

The title of the proposed Road Tattoo is called "Daughters and Sons Knot," a 60 feet wide by 300 feet long Celtic knot, intended to commemorate the lives of area soldiers recently killed while serving their country. Before to a dedication ceremony at 1 p.m.  on Sunday, the knot will be filled with the names of the daughters and sons of the fallen soldiers. As with past works, Taylor will work with volunteers to grid and draw the design, to inscribe it with names and other meaningful remembrances, and to paint it.
