Visto, a D.C. native and “Head Hippie” of the Hippie Life Krew Visto is spending as much time in Atlanta as he does in the District these days. His time in the city dubbed the “new Motown of the South” has proven fruitful in his latest duet, “Hurricane,” featuring Australian-born vocalist Emmaline.

The grooving and soulful trap production is provided by the Democratz, a duo native to Atlanta that’s worked with artists affiliated with T.I.‘s Hustle Gang artist collective. Emmaline’s vocalss are frequently finding their way into tracks from up and coming Atlanta emcees; on “Hurricane,” her plaintive and willowy voice combines well with Visto’s earnest raps and yearning falsetto, creating a pleasing top-line vocal mix.

The lyrics find Visto describing a particularly amorous lovemaking session that ends up “on the kitchen sink.” But Emmaline’s earwormy hook (“clouds and rainy days, but you’re a hurricane”) brings a warm familiarity to the track, recalling the sample of Lissie‘s take on Kid Cudi‘s “Pursuit of Happiness” that spurred the mainstream success of Schoolboy Q and A$AP Rocky‘s 2012 single “Hands On The Wheel.”

In other Visto news, the R&B vocalist has a new mixtape set to drop this fall and will open for L.A. rap group OverDoz this Saturday at U Street Music Hall.
