The Inaugural In It Together Fest’s DIY Lineup

infest logo"Do It Yourself" is a time-tested ethos that has borne much principled, underground art and activism, but sometimes, it takes a village to raise a music scene—and a collaborative network can support more creativity than any lone actor ever could. That's the spirit behind the inaugural In It Together Fest, a four-day music and art festival that will bring together nearly 50 local and national bands spanning almost as many genres on the weekend of July 31.

The In It Together lineup features some familiar homegrown acts—D.C. surf-rock quartet Shark Week, '90s revivalists Two Inch Astronaut, and experimental jazz group Trio OOO all have spots on the bill—as well as touring bands like Pile, Mannequin Pussy, and Vunderbar.

Organized primarily by members of the Dougout and Hole in the Sky, but encompassing several independently planned events around town, the festival seeks to highlight hotspots of D.C.’s non-commercial arts and music scene and make connections between folks doing similar work in the city. Most events will be will be free and donation-based, and held at DIY house venues or art spaces (organizers have provided a map for the uninitiated).

Although the majority of the acts are musicians and bands, the lineup also features comedy, lectures, skating, ice cream, and an incarceration-themed art show. Check out the full schedule here.
