Strathmore to Open Amp, a New Music Venue in North Bethesda
This fall, Strathmore will open a new performance space at Pike & Rose, a just-built mixed-use development in North Bethesda. The venue, AMP, will center around a music hall with cabaret-style seating for 250 people. Neighborhood Restaurant Group will serve up food for concertgoers and catering services for those renting the space for special events.
According to a press release, the space's name was chosen as a nod to its amplification (get it?) of music and culture in Montgomery County. Strathmore seems to have found a golden opportunity for an image refresh in this new venture: AMP's logo, while slightly reminiscent of the monogrammed L.L. Bean backpacks that crowded my third-grade school bus, is nevertheless far hipper than the dated emblem of Strathmore proper, and the photos on its website look downright Instagrammed.
Music programming will begin early next year, but Strathmore will rent the space out for parties, weddings, and the like starting this fall. AMP's website promises "a luxurious, intimate space with incredible acoustics." Sounds like it may be worth the Metro ride to White Flint.
