Casa Fiesta Hosts Its Last Show Tonight
After tonight, Tenleytown will be short one music venue and whole lot of street cred. Casa Fiesta, a Mexican restaurant that's hosted regular punk, metal, and hardcore shows for the past two years, is closing its doors to future concerts, according to a Facebook post from promoter Robin Zeijlon:
New management are going to take over the restaurant and they don't want to have shows upstairs anymore. If you have ever been to/played/or run a show at Casa Fiesta you know that the people who work there are nothing short of the greatest people on Earth. We have been doing shows at Casa Fiesta for over two years which is a modern day miracle.
Zeijlon booked shows at Casa Fiesta with co-promoter Alex Edelmann as Tenley Empire, helping the unassuming restaurant compete with Fort Reno for neighborhood bragging rights and land a spot on DCist's list of the city's best music venues. Local bands got lots of stage time, but Tenley Empire also landed national acts like Diarrhea Planet and Waxahatchee.
Tonight's show, Casa Fiesta's last, features Full of Hell, Column of Heaven, Nyodene D, and D.O.C. The booking collective has at least one gig on the docket that's not at Casa Fiesta (it's on May 27 at Union Arts), so Tenley Empire's shows will go on, at least for now.
