Listen: Wale’s “Black Grammys” and “Show Me Love” Remix
After returning to Twitter after a nearly three-month hiatus, Wale released the video for "Black Grammys" the same day the awards aired. The song—a Tone P-produced cut from the most recent Maybach Music Group compilation, Self Made 3—features MMG cohorts Meek Mill and Rockie Fresh, as well as longtime collaborator J.Cole.
Directed by Dre Films, the crisp, black-and-white video features all four rappers in a highlight reel of tour footage (and red carpet scenes, of course), each of them introduced with a Grammyesque envelope. In the song's opening verse, Wale alludes to a problem he thinks has plagued his commercial career: "Misunderstood, just over heads/Just in your ears, although you deaf." (Not a new gripe from the rapper, but a valid one, in my opinion.)
Late last week, Wale also shared a remix to Brooklyn rapper Troy Ave’s single, "Show Me Love," on which the DMV native references the region's love of Nike Air Foamposites: "D.C. don’t got no gangs, they just beat the block up/And they rarely hit the bank 'cause they need the 'posites/Foams, baby."
