Photos: Minor Alps @ Black Cat Backstage
"If you can play a song on acoustic, and it sounds good, then you know it's solid," Juliana Hatfield said last night after her performance with Minor Alps at Black Cat Backstage. It doesn't hurt to have a copilot as talented as Nada Surf's Matthew Caws, too. Hatfield and Caws, already friends for years, decided to embark on their Minor Alps project this year after "feeling they had a common ground," says Caws.
Last night, the two treated the Black Cat audience to lovely harmonies and expressive words from their debut record Get There, as well as acoustic renditions of a few Nada Surf songs, a couple of Hatfield songs, and some interesting covers (Everly Brothers and Robyn Hitchcock). It felt like 90 minutes of two friends inviting all of us along for the fun.
