The Evens to Play at Fort Reno July 8

Indie rock and outdoor concert lovers, rejoice! Fort Reno has finally announced the first of its summer concerts. The Evens, Ian MacKaye and Amy Farina's folk-punk duo, will play at the Northwest D.C. park on July 8 at 7:15 p.m. No further shows in the twice-weekly concert series have been announced yet

Many have wondered in recent weeks about the Fort Reno schedule, which began much earlier in previous summers; the first concerts took place on June 28 in 2010, June 27 in 2011, and June 18 in 2012. Outdoor concerts at Carter Barron and Fort Dupont were delayed due to the sequestration cuts throughout the National Park Service, but because the Fort Reno concert series does not receive any federal funds, the events at the park were unaffected by the mandatory federal cuts.

Amanda MacKaye, longtime organizer of the concert series, insists that nothing's wrong, telling the Washington Post's Going Out Guide that the Fort Reno website will be updated as soon as a full schedule is finalized. In the meantime, don your best knit hat and head to the park next Monday.

Fort Reno was created for the kids, but it's managed by the middle-aged. It's time for it to go back under management by the kids, for all their mistakes. If there aren't 20 shows scheduled this summer then something is wrong, regardless of how many people say "Nothing is Wrong." People sometimes have a hard time admitting that they're lying to themselves. The people playing Ft Reno really should be children, they shouldn't already have children.
