Listen to a New America Hearts Song (Then Come See Them Tonight at the American Art Museum)
You are coming to the show we helped put together at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, aren't you? This evening's free Luce Unplugged showcase features sets from Lyriciss, More Humans, and America Hearts—plus, for the first hour, some free beer samples from Port City Brewing. Very cool.
Also cool: This new song that America Hearts sent us this morning. "I Like Bad Music" gets at a feeling that anyone who listened to, I dunno, Beat Happening in high school knows well: When you fall for someone with terrible taste in music. In the case of Matthews' ditty, that means "the acoustic kind, songs by guys with beards like Iron & Wine." Burn! America Hearts' Jess Matthews explains:
I've found myself in situations where I'm really into someone and all I want to do is sleep in, discuss our childhoods over brunch, and listen to Neil Young records with them, only to find out that who they truly love is Kenny Loggins. And I must exit, DANGER ZONE!
But I too have alienated lovers with the sheer number of 311 songs in my library, even though they are from so long ago and MEAN NOTHING!
There is a Jonathan Richman song I like [that goes] "To win at love you must surrender." It doesn't feel bad, especially with parody.
Very true. Stream and download the song below, and come to tonight's show, which starts at 6 p.m.
