Bummer: Morrissey Cancels North American Tour Dates, Including D.C.

Remember when we lauded Morrissey's April 5 show for its potential to help reinvigorate the National Theatre? That show is now canceled and our dreams have shriveled up and died.

Sent Saturday morning, this press release totally ruined brunch:

NEW YORK – March 16, 2013 – The remaining dates of the Morrissey U.S. North American tour have officially been pulled down due to medical reasons. The singer has suffered a series of medical mishaps over the past few months including a bleeding ulcer, Barrett’s esophagus and double pneumonia.

Despite his best efforts to try to continue touring, Morrissey has to take a hiatus and will not be able to continue on the rest of the tour. Morrissey thanks all of his fans for their well wishes and thoughts. Refunds for the remaining shows are available at point of purchase.

The poor guy has had a rough go of it lately. When I looked up Barrett's esophagus, I found it has nothing to do with Syd Barrettaccording to the NIH website, it's an extremely uncomfortable-sounding condition, usually linked to gastroesophageal reflux disease, that transforms esophageal tissue into something more like stomach lining.

Get better, Moz.

Ticket sales were that bad, huh?

Not buying the illness excuse... happens far too frequently that artists are cancelling parts of their tours due to "illness". Just sounds better than "not enough people are buying tickets."
