Cricket Cemetery to Release X.O.’s The Takeover 2 on Vinyl

Yesterday on Facebook, Arlington-based record label Cricket Cemetery announced that it plans to re-release X.O.'s 2008 Takeover 2 mixtape on vinyl this summer.

"I am honored to announce the addition of X.O. to the Cricket Cemetery family," says the label's status update. It promises to give the mixtape "deluxe packaging" on colored vinyl in a limited pressing. Cricket Cemetery owner Ian Thompson says via email, "Isn't it so exciting!!! XO and yU are my favorite emcees, Diamond District my favorite group. Definite dream-come-true scenario." He adds that the mixtape was never mastered; for this vinyl version, it will be mastered by local engineer TJ Lipple.

Cricket Cemetery—which Washington City Paper called D.C.'s Best Upstart Label in 2012—usually trades in derivations of rock and punk, though Thompson has never been narrow-minded: He's released material from experimental-folk duo Janel and Anthony, tuneful garage-rock band Passing Phases, and blistering punx LTW, Pliant, and Beasts of No Nation, among others. X.O.'s The Takeover 2 will be its first hip-hop release.
