Listen: Benoit & Sergio, Bridge So Far
It's not officially out till February, but Benoit & Sergio's latest 12-inch EP, Bridge So Far, has hit the Internet. The two-songer is the D.C./Berlin duo's first release for the Hot Creations label, and it's typical Benoit & Sergio through and through: "Bridge So Far" is a subdued slow burner; the flip, "$100 Dollar Bill," draws its strength from a hot disco slap. Neither tune is technically new, of course; Benoit & Sergio have been playing them out for months.
But while this EP flashes all the signature elements of a Benoit & Sergio release—airy vocals, beach-bum atmospherics, that warm house bounce—it lacks the humor or excitement of the pair's previous stuff. October's New Ships yielded some obvious jams (and who could forget 2011's refrain of the year, "My Baby Does K All Day") but these ones take a few more listens to stick.
Hear "Bridge So Far" and "$100 Dollar Bill" after the jump. When you're done with that, listen to their elegant remix of Matthew Dear's "Fighting is Futile," also below. They take a hot iron to the original, thoroughly taming almost all of Dear's wild instincts.
