Photos: Jesus & Mary Chain, The Psychic Paramount, The Vandelles @ 9:30 Club
The fuzzy distortion of Bob Mould's guitar was still in the air on Sunday at the 9:30 Club when I arrived for another night of ear-splitting sounds courtesy of The Jesus & Mary Chain. While the band didn't offer the most animated stage presence, JAMC's guitars, drums, and lead singer Jim Reid's voice were the same powerhouse they were when the Scottish band hit the scene in the '80s. Listen to just about any shoegaze or post-punk band today and there are obvious traces of "Head On," "Far Gone and Out," and "Happy When it Rains" there. Openers The Psychic Paramount and The Vandelles were proof positive of the JAMC influence.
