Update: Aug. 20, 12:33 p.m.: We’ve learned that the concert was canceled altogether, and refunds are available at place of purchase.

Update, 4:13 p.m.: Darryl “Tubb” Robinson’s public-relations representative at Platinum Image Entertainment Group has sent a strongly worded press release blaming co-presenter Kappstone Media for Chuck Brown Day’s cancellation. It says, in a nutshell, that Kappstone failed to make good on financial arrangements with the Convention Center, and left Tubb Entertainment holding the bag. The allegations are quite detailed, and we haven’t been able to sort them all out yet. But here’s an excerpt:

Tubb Entertainment is mortified at this situation as all of the bands had to be cancelled and all the hard work that the people at the Convention Center and everyone else involved in this show put in to make this a successful event only to have it ruined the day before the event by one entity, Kappstone Media and Willie Young.

Everyone involved in the show feels terrible that this has happened as everyone worked very hard to make this a successful event. Unfortunately, somethings are out of your control when you are not the principal contract holder and you rely on someone else.

Multiple calls and one email to Kappstone have not been returned.

Update, 4 p.m.: Events DC has told us that Chuck Brown Day was canceled yesterday because of “contractual issues.”

Chuck Brown Day, the enormous tribute event to the Godfather of Go-Go scheduled to take place at the Convention Center tomorrow, may be moving to the D.C. Star. “Hopefully,” says event promoter Darryl “Tubb” Robinson. He says arrangements are still being worked out, and he’ll be able to provide more details later today.

The event’s vendor coordinator, LaKisha Love, tells Washington City Paper there was “a problem” with the Convention Center location and now the huge party may move to the 5,000-standing-capacity nightclub on Queens Chapel Road NE.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for Events DC—-the company that runs events at the Convention Center—-says she doesn’t know anything about Chuck Brown Day.

This post will be updated as we learn more.
