Kane Mayfield’s “Beautiful Drug” Video Is Both Grim and Pretty

One of the standout tracks on Kane Mayfield's new Rhymes By Kane: Thievery Corporation Edition is "Beautiful Drug," which jacks the beat from the D.C. duo's song of the same name. The video for the Baltimore rapper's track popped up early this week, and it's an apt piece of storytelling about the power of addiction, directed by New Yorker Joey Angerone.

Kane and his C.L. Smooth-style flow are bracketed by shots of a pink-haired mystery lady who lip-syncs the hook originally sung for Thievery Corporation by Slovakian musician Jana Andevska. Is she a metaphorical pusher? A one-woman Greek chorus of some sort? A comment on moral ambiguity? Who knows! The "oh shit" moment at the climax makes the whole thing worth some beginning-to-end viewing, though.
